HANDBOOK: This contains all the information you need to know about this class including supplies, calendar of events, concert etiquette and attire, and more. Please take time to review it with your student, sign the last page and return for 10 pts. homework. A hard copy is also sent home during Quarter 1 and also available here: orchestra handbook.docx

ID TAG: It is very important for every student to have an ID tag on their case! I will have these for sale next week for $2. You can also find them in the luggage section of any department store, or in a music store.

Orchestra is a year-long class offered to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Orchestra is open to all students regardless of their playing level. Instruments offered: Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass.

Students may bring their own instrument, rent, or borrow from the school. We have some violins and violas, and a limited number of cellos. Cello and bass players are encouraged to rent an instrument for home, and they will play a school instrument at school.

Violin and viola players must provide their own shoulder rest. Cello and bass players will need an endpin stopper (strap or rock stop).

All students will also need a 1″ black 3-ring binder, notebook paper and pencils. 6th graders will need the method book Essential Elements book 1 for their instrument.

Other accessories, not mandatory but a good idea to have on hand: rosin, soft cloth, extra strings, music stand for home, metronome or metronome app, tuner or tuner app.

Below are links to the letter (sent home the first week of school), supply list, local music stores and private string teachers.

  • My girls are in 6th grade orchestra. We are wondering if they have to have an instrument? If so do you have any they could borrow.

  • Hello, I do have some school instruments available for check-out at no cost. We have violins, violas, a limited number of cellos, and a 1/4 size bass. Cello players are encouraged to get their own instrument for home, and they will play a school instrument at school. Please email me if you have any more questions: gendronm@wlwv.k12.or.us
